Ingredients

Group: Ingredients
  • 1 pound spicy Italian sausage
  • 1 package refrigerated puff pastry two sheets
  • 1 cup shredded cheese sharp cheddar recommended
  • 1 Tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp. dried Italian herbs (like oregano and basil)
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • Flour for dusting
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Rolling Pin
  • Baking sheet
  • Medium bowl
  • Pastry brush

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and dust your work surface with flour.
  2. Remove the casing from the sausage and mix in the cheese, garlic powder, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl.
  3. Roll out the thawed puff pastry until about an eighth of an inch thick.
  4. Cut the pastry into rectangles, spoon the sausage mixture into each, roll tightly, and tuck in the ends.
  5. Brush the rolled pinwheels with the egg wash for a golden color.
  6. Place on a lined baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes until golden and delicious.
  7. Cool slightly and serve warm, allowing the cheese to ooze with each bite.

Notes

Ensure to allow the puff pastry to sit at room temperature to avoid cracking while rolling. Overfilling may cause them to explode, and don't skip the egg wash for a beautiful finish!
