This Caprese sandwich, made with fresh mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes, and basil, is easy to assemble and perfect for casual meals.

  • 1 large heirloom tomato, sliced
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • fresh basil leaves
  • balsamic glaze store-bought or homemade
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • sea salt
  • freshly cracked black pepper

Method
 

  1. Start by slicing your ciabatta roll or baguette in half. Drizzle some extra virgin olive oil on the cut sides and toast them in a skillet until golden brown.
  2. On the bottom half of your toasted bread, layer the fresh mozzarella slices, followed by the slices of heirloom tomato.
  3. Scatter fresh basil leaves over the tomatoes, then drizzle balsamic glaze over the stack and sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper.
  4. Cap it with the top half of your bread and press down gently. Cut into portions and serve with extra balsamic glaze for dipping.

Notes

Make sure to use ripe heirloom tomatoes for the best flavor. Season well to enhance the taste of your ingredients.
