Ingredients

Group: Wet Ingredients
  • ¾ cup warm water (around 110°F)
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
Group: Dry Ingredients
  • cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1¼ – 1½ cups all-purpose flour (adjust as necessary)

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Loaf pan 9x5 inch
  • Wire rack

Method

  1. Pour the warm water into a large mixing bowl and stir in the honey. Sprinkle the yeast on top, allowing it to sit for about five minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Add in the whole wheat flour and salt, stirring until combined.
  3. Drizzle in the olive oil and then gradually add the all-purpose flour. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot until it doubles in size, typically about an hour.
  5. Punch down the risen dough, shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan. Allow it to rise for an additional 30-40 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Bake the bread for 35-40 minutes, or until it sounds hollow when tapped.
  7. Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack.

Notes

Be patient during the rising and kneading process for the best results.
