- Start by peeling, coring, and slicing your apples.
- In a large pot, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, apple cider, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Stir gently to coat.
- Place the pot over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples soften, about 20-25 minutes.
- Puree the mixture using an immersion blender or in batches with a regular blender until smooth.
- Return the mixture to the pot and cook over low heat for 45-60 minutes, stirring frequently.
- To check for thickness, spoon a bit onto a plate; it should hold its shape.
- Pour the hot apple butter into sterilized jars and seal tightly. Refrigerate for up to two weeks.
