Group: Vegetables and Seasonings
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • salt and pepper, to taste
Group: Binding Ingredients
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 block feta cheese, crumbled
Group: For Brushing
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted

Equipment

  • Cast-iron skillet
  • Large skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Brush For applying melted butter

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic for about 5 minutes until fragrant. Add ground meat and cook until browned, stirring often.
  3. Transfer the cooked meat to a mixing bowl. Once cooled slightly, mix in the crumbled feta and beaten eggs until well combined.
  4. Layer about 5 sheets of phyllo in a cast-iron skillet, brushing each with melted butter. Spread the meat mixture evenly, then top with another 5 layers of phyllo, brushing each again.
  5. Bake the pie for approximately 45 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Make sure to thaw phyllo dough completely. Brush each layer with butter to achieve a flaky texture.
