Ingredients

Group: Ingredients
  • 1 lb. thinly sliced deli roast beef
  • 4 slices fresh rye bread or crispy baguette
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • ½ cup creamy horseradish sauce
  • 1 cup fresh arugula or lettuce
  • Dill pickles, for garnish
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Dijon mustard, optional

Equipment

  • Non-stick skillet
  • Medium saucepan

Method

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic. Bring it to a gentle simmer for about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper as needed.
  2. On a slice of rye bread, spread a generous layer of creamy horseradish sauce. Layer on the roast beef, followed by Swiss cheese.
  3. Sprinkle arugula over the cheese and spread some Dijon mustard on the top slice of bread if desired.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook the assembled sandwich for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  5. Cut the sandwich in half and serve hot with a small cup of au jus on the side for dipping.

Notes

Ensure your roast beef is at room temperature and avoid overloading on toppings for the best results. Toasting the bread enhances texture.
